Seventh-inning rally vaults Chesapeake past South River, 3-1

A tight game was decided in the seventh inning as the Seahawks fell to Chesapeake 3-1 on Wednesday at SRHS.

Stellar defense and pinpoint pitching dominated early.  In the fifth inning, the Hawks put a run on the board to take the lead.  Jake Gratz led off with a single, and two batters later, Gabe Vertucci's hard single brought home courtesy runner Jake Donaldson.

Chesapeake turned the tables in the seventh, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Austin Karls and two bases loaded walks.  Andrew Spinnenweber got the win for Chesapeake, allowing one run over six innings, while striking out three.  Chris Ruszin came on in the seventh and earned the save.

Craig Sheridan took the loss but deserved better, throwing well over six plus innings.  He yielded only four hits and had six strikeouts, while walking five.

At the plate for the Hawks, Jake Gratz had two hits, as did Vertucci.  Other hits came from Sheridan, Connor Cox and Brody Raimondo.

The Seahawks dropped to 9-3 overall.
