Hawks muzzle Bulldogs, soar to 8-0 win

South River jumped out to an early lead on Southern and cruised to an 8-0 victory on Thursday at SRHS.

An RBI double by Jake Gratz, an RBI single by Connor Cox, and an RBI triple by Craig Sheridan in the first inning kick-started the offense. Sheridan went 3 for 3 at the plate, while Cox had two hits and Scott Mitchell had three runs scored for South River. Brody Raimondo, Jake Donaldson and Eric Sieber also had solid hits for the Hawks.

Southern's lineup had no answer for Pierce Tyrrell (3-0) and his superb slider. The Bulldogs managed just three hits off of Tyrrell, who allowed no runs, walked one and struck out five during his five innings of work. Thomas Falsone threw two efficient innings, yielding one hit and striking out one. Defensively, Brody Raimondo helped preserve the shutout with a diving catch in deep right in the second, and Sheridan had a number of outstanding plays at first.

South River opened up the lead with three in the third. Cox started the inning with a double, plating Mitchell. Sheridan followed with a single, scoring Alec Witkowski, who was running for catcher Gratz.

The Hawks tacked on another two runs in the sixth. Kyle Leonard's ground out scored Witkowski, and Mitchell came across on a throwing error.

South River moved to 13-5 on the year, with a rematch against Broadneck on tomorrow's docket.
