The South River Seahawks met Arundel for a 4A showdown under the lights Friday at Joe Cannon Stadium.
South River collected five hits but fell 9-3 in their season opener.
Jake Gratz led South River's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. Bryan Shores led the hits with two. Joe Scott and Scott Mitchell also singled. Nick Raimondo and Grant Atchison crossed home following walks.
Starter Scott Mitchell collected five strike outs and walked six for South River over four innings. Pierce Tyrrell and Shores relieved.
