South River Outlasts Arundel

The Seahawks continued their quest for an untarnished season, but it was not without difficulty en route to a 4-2 win over the Wildcats. Arundel started the scoring following a questionable free kick and the wet ball squirted through the hands of the Seahawk net minder for the goal. That lead was short lived as Grace MacMillan launched a top shelf bomb out of the reach of the Arundel goalie following the assist by Caitlin Pierson. South River then took the lead after Kristen Castle passed to Emma Schwartz who took a shot that was not smothered by the Arundel goalie. Kyla Kellogg corralled the rebound and calmly placed it in the back of the net. The Seahawks padded their lead following a corner kick by Cindy LaBarge that nearly went in, and following a scuffle for control of the ball, Anna Wolfe celebrated South River's third goal. South River ended their scoring when Bella Schenk took a free kick near the mid field circle which ended up giving Kristen Castle a break away goal and Castle slipped the ball wide past the Wildcat goalie. Lizzie Wink made a nice save high in her box but had to leave the game shortly thereafter. Arundel got a late goal to cap the scoring for the day. South River continued their stout defense with scoring threats thwarted by excellent back line play of Cheyenne Joyner, Bella Schenk and Bethany Cosgrove.
